Sadness and Joy

Loss is sad. Unimaginably, painfully sad.
But joyful, loving times in the past, can remain joyful in loving memory today,
alongside, but not diminished by the long aching sadness of loss.
We can learn to hold sadness and joy together in our now expanding heart.
Then the sadness is as welcome as the joy.
And there is gratitude for both.
